Mirela Ivicevi

Mirela Ivičević (1980, Split/Croatia) is a composer and sound artist currently based in Vienna, Austria. Her work focuses mainly on the reflective and subversive potential of sound and sound’s role in social and political context. Majority of her artistic output are conceptual and interdisciplinary works which utilize acoustic and other side-­‐products of media-­‐dominated reality to address the issues like identity, otherness and freedom in contemporary social environments.She finished her master studies in composition and music theory at the Music Academy Zagreb, postgraduate studies in Media Composition and applied Music at the University of Music and performing Arts Vienna and is currently doing a postgraduate course in composition with Beat Furrer at the University of Music and performing Arts Graz.She collaborated with many ensembles and artists of different fields in-­‐ and outside Europe in a wide range of genre-­‐bending projects. Recent prizes include Josip Štolcer Slavenski Prize 2013 awarded yearly to the best piece of contemporary music in Croatia for her Musiktheater PLANET 8 as well as Austrian State Scholarship for Composition (2014). Her third opera, 853211 DREAMGIRLS!, comissioned by Music Biennale Zagreb and Cantus Ansambl will be performed in April 2015 in Zagreb’s Theater &TD.Alongside artistic work she is also active as a producer and co-­‐curator of Dani Nove Glazbe Split -­‐ international festival of cutting-­‐edge music and related art forms that takes place bi-­‐annually in Split, Croatia.
