MATAlab

MATAlab is a new concert platform that embraces the casual atmosphere of a chamber music reading party. Composers, musicians and audiences mingling and discovering new music together. Part curated concert and part house party, musicians and composers are invited to sign up for the “house band”, propose works for the curated concert, or just show up that night with a score and/or instrument in hand. Audiences are invited to observe and witness the first readings or second hearings to new chamber works. Join us in our new initiative and experience Tomorrow’s Music Today.

MUSIC AT THE ANTHOLOGY (MATA) PRESENTS

PROJECT RESONANCE

WITH BERGAMOT QUARTET AND DAN TRUEMAN

Announcing Bergamot Quartet’s Project Resonance, an ongoing exploration of traditional Scandinavian Hardanger instruments in the context of a modern string quartet. Via Project Resonance, Bergamot Quartet will commission, perform, and record new music to be played on this quartet of instruments, made by Lynn Berg and one of only a few sets like it in the world.

On March 29, 2025, Bergamot will hold the inaugural event of Project Resonance in NYC, presented by MATA. This event will include a workshop for composers interested in the possibilities of creating new music for Bergamot playing the Hardanger instruments; a “meet and greet” where attendees can learn more about the history and construction of the instruments; and a performance by Bergamot and Dan Trueman.

SUBMISSIONS

Submissions for the workshop component open on January 16, 2025, and close on February 13, 2025, capped at 40. Interested composers should submit short sketches through the form on Bergamot Quartet’s website (www.bergamotquartet.com). The project is not limited to music makers who are already well versed in the traditional Scandinavian music from which the Hardanger fiddle comes; through Project Resonance, Bergamot aims to widely share the sonic capabilities of these instruments, creating a new and unique repertoire while honoring their legacy.

The March 29 launch of Project Resonance will take place in lower Manhattan in a private residence (Address to be disclosed with ticket purchase.)
