Utku Asuroglu
Born in 1986, Utku Asuroglu began his musical studies at the age of 19 at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSFAU) State Conservatory. He holds a masters degree from the Kunstuniversitat Graz under the tutelage of Clemens Gadenstatter and Georg Friedrich Haas (composition techniques and repertoire) where he graduated with the highest distinction and a bachelor’s degree from the Rotterdam Conservatory under the direction of Klaas de Vries, Luc Brewaeys, and Rene Uijlenhoet. On top of composing, Utku pursued a degree in conducting as well at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Carlo Balemans.Utku has won numerous awards and fellowships. He was a Kurum fellow between the years 2008 to 2011 in the Netherlands, he was honored with the Kunstuniversität Graz Jahresstipendium throughout his master studies and recently, in 2014 he was awarded the Musikförderungspreis der Stadt Graz in Austria and he is one of the finalists of the Feeding Music – International Composition Contest (Expo Milano 2015). He was a laureate winner of both the Gaudeamus Prize 2015, the Vrienden van het Lied Competition and selected for Goethe Institute's 2016 Asian Composer Showcase in Seoul Korea.His works have been performed in important festivals among them Darmstädter Ferienkurse, Donaueschinger Musiktage Next Generation, Schleswig Holstein, Manifeste Ircam, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Essen Europen Capital Culture, Red Ear festivals. Ensembles, orchestras and artists performing his works include the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Asko|Schönberg, Divertimento Ensemble, Faust Quartett, Insomnia Ensemble, Slagwerk Den Haag, Signum Quartett, Ensemble Interface, Neos Brass, Camerata Rotterdam Ensemble, Bursa State Symphony Orchestra, MSFAU Orchestra of Istanbul, Dimitri Ashkenazy, Ada Meinich.Utku Asuroglu is currently pursuing his artist diploma in composition at the Hochschule Musik für Freiburg with Brice Pauset.
