Jessie Marino
Jessie Marino is a composer/performer from New York. Her current work explores the virtuosity of common activities, ritual absurdities in classical performance practices, and the power of humor. These works of Composed Theater rigorously score out sound, physical movements, lighting and staging and place them within highly organized time structures and musical forms.Jessie holds a Bachelor's degree in Cello Performance from the Manhattan School of Music. In 2006 she was awarded the Stamas Family Scholarship from Lincoln Center and has recently received awards from The Headlands Foundation, MATA Festival, Meet the Composer, New York Foundation for the Arts, and the International Alliance for Women in Music. As a cellist, Jessie performs regularly with Ensemble Pamplemousse and the Wet Ink Ensemble (NYC) and has worked with influential composers such as Alvin Lucier, Pierre Boulez, Beat Furrer, and Anthony Braxton. She has previously been a member of the SEM Ensemble (NYC), Forum Zeitgenoessicher Musik (Leipzig), KlangExectuiv (Berlin), and the Ostravska Banda (CZ). In 2008 she founded the sound-centric performance duo, On Structure, with her long time friend and colleague Natacha Diels. Jessie currently resides in Brooklyn, NY where she is lucky to be able to collaborate regularly with her favorite musical friends and is working towards perfecting her telling of the "Whale Joke" as well as attaining a Masters degree in Composition at Wesleyan University.www.jessiemarino.com
