Gordon Beeferman

 [audio:Passages - Gordon Beeferman (Excerpt).mp3|titles=Passages]Composer/pianist GORDON BEEFERMAN’s work spans opera, orchestral and chamber music, improvisation, and collaborations with dance and other arts. His compositions have been performed by diverse ensembles from Anti-Social Music to the New York City Opera. He leads two avant-jazz ensembles: Music for an Imaginary Band, a septet which performs his compositions, and the quartet Other Life Forms. Recent performances as a pianist include the Vision Festival, Roulette, ISSUE Project Room, Bowerbird, and Einstein on the Beach with the Philip Glass Ensemble. Beeferman’s collaborations with choreographers have been produced at the Joyce SoHo, Danspace Project at St. Mark’s Church, The Chocolate Factory, and Abrons Arts Center. His chamber opera The Rat Land (“complex and daringly modern” – NY Times), written with librettist Charlotte Jackson, will receive its stage premiere in 2013 in Los Angeles by The Industry L.A. Current projects include The Enchanted Organ: A Porn Opera, a new collaboration with Jackson.
