Evan Antonellis

Evan Antonellis was born in New England and was trained as a pianist and composer. He obtained his doctorate in composition from Manhattan School of Music, where he represented his graduation class to receive the prestigious Helen Cohn award for outstanding achievement.  He is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theory at Ohio University, having previously taught theory at Manhattan School of Music for four years.  He also teaches summer sessions at the Young Musicians Program at the University of California, Berkeley.  He has lectured on his music at Manhattan School of Music, Columbia University, and Janáček Conservatory in the Czech Republic.  As a composer, Dr. Antonellis has been the recipient of numerous prizes and awards, including a BMI award and a Nicholas Flagello award.  In 2013, he will be featured at the Tanglewood Music Center as a fellow in composition.  In addition, he has been invited MacDowell Colony and the Ostrava Days Music Festival, and his compositions have been performed in Germany, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and the United States.  He has participated in master classes with Rebecca Saunders, Christian Wolff, Bernhard Lang, Tristan Murail, Dawn Upshaw, Frederic Rzewski, and Richard Danielpour, and collaborated with the conductors Jeffrey Milarsky and David Gilbert. His primary composition teachers have been Andy Vores, Dalit Warshaw, Nils Vigeland, and Reiko Fueting.
