Daniel Moreira

Daniel Moreira (1984, Brazil) is an active composer and conductor. After studies in Physics, he studied composition in Brazil (UFRGS), United States (UT-Austin) and Germany (HfMT Hamburg and MH Stuttgart). His main teachers were Marco Stroppa, Manfred Stahnke and C.L. Chaves.His interests include the incorporation of found objects and daily media into composition (ranging from household devices, music boxes, toys, electrical machines to online videos).  He is passionate about building his own musical gadgets out of unusual objects. Similar to his approach of found objects, Moreira likes to treat musical materials as building blocks that can be reordered, cut, pasted, sampled as well as transformed into new objects.For his works Daniel has been awarded with prizes and scholarships such as the German Music Competition 2012, BNI Comission Competition, Stuttgarter Kompositionspreis, DAAD Prize 2011, Gaudeamus music prize finalist, Salvatore Martirano Award (2nd Prize) and others. His compositions have already been heard in the USA, Europa, Asia, Australia and South-America in such important venues and festivals as the Academy of arts in Berlin, Gaudeamus Music Week, Darmstadt Summer Courses, Eclat Festival, Philharmonie Essen, Cresc. Biennale, ISCM World New Music Days, Donaueschinger Musiktage Off-Programm and others.As a conductor Daniel studied in the USA with Robert Carnochan, in Germany with Lorenz Nordmeyer and in Italy with Michael Luig. Daniel is particularly interested in the contemporary Ensemble/orchestral repertoire and in the cooperation with living composers He is the founder and conductor of the new music ensemble Volumina Consort.Daniel is lecturer in instrumentation and acoustics at the University of Hanover in Germany.
