Bearthoven

Formed in 2013, Bearthoven is a collaboration between Karl Larson (piano), Pat Swoboda (bass), and Matt Evans (percussion). Each new music specialists in their own right, these three performers have come together to create a versatile trio focussed on frequent and innovative commissioning of up-and-coming composers. Bearthoven is rapidly building a new, diverse repertoire by challenging composers to apply their own voice to an instrumentation that, while common in jazz and pop settings, is currently foreign in the contemporary classical world.Bearthoven's first concert season was highly successful, solidly establishing the trio as a forerunner in the New York City contemporary music scene. In the past twelve months, Bearthoven has commissioned and premiered works by Brooks Frederickson, Fjóla Evans, Alex Weiser, Eric Shanfield, Luke Gullickson, and Ben Hjertmann. Their first season featured multiple performances around New York City, culminating with an appearance on the 2014 Bang on a Can Marathon.
