Ensemble neoN: Ultima Thule

dsc_7330_29779205617_o.jpeg

Co-presented by Scandinavia HouseFresh from Norway, Ensemble neoN makes its American debut in a vivacious program of works from six different countries. From the primordial ur-language of Neil Luck’s charismatic Bubbles to the kaleidoscopic interplays of Alexander Kaiser’s [ˈprɪz(ə)m], the program is an expedition to the farthest reaches of the human condition. Diego Jiménez Tamame argues for understanding in his Don’t condescend [Don’t even disagree], while Jan Martin Smørdal celebrates transcribed noise in his All Play. Seán Clancy’s Fourteen Minutes of Music on the Subject of Greeting Cards maps out a life in epigrams, and Matthew Welch’s Comala’s Song (a co-commission of MATA and Norway’s Ultima Festival) closes out the evening with its borderless music of ecstatic intensity.8PM at Scandinavia House, 58 Park Avenue, between 37th and 38th Street, NYC$25 / $20 Students
