MATA Continued: Natacha Diels’s and Sam Scranton’s I Love Myself
Fully and Unconditionally
Saturday-Sunday, August 24-25th, 2019 | 11:00 AM-5:00 PM
Saturday-Monday, August 31-September 2nd, 2019 | 11:00 AM-5:00 PM
Building 10A Nolan Park Governors Island

On weekends from August 24 through September 2, MATA, in partnership with electronic-arts incubator Harvestworks, presented Natacha Diels and Sam Scranton’s I Love Myself Fully and Unconditionally, a site-specific installation/tour in a home on Governor’s Island.  I Love Myself Fully and Unconditionally combines sound, light, video projections, and interactive elements to create a dream narrative intended “to make us feel a little better about the world.”  Natacha Diels and Sam Scranton transform a Governor’s Island house into a series of surreal spaces, where a living room may become a butterfly conservatory, and a foyer may become a private divination booth.  Guides use the language of healing, sugary pop lyrics, and fantasy to craft an alternate reality, allowing participants to have a brief escape from the world around them.
