MATA 2021 Call for Submissions

Music At The Anthology (MATA) seeks submissions from composers in the early stages of their careers for our 2021 Festival of New Music in New York City and additional concerts during our 2020-2021 season. MATA has no aesthetic bias: we welcome all types of music from fully notated to improvised, sound art, video, electronic, found instruments, toys, installations, and everything in between. Composers are selected on the strength of their overall portfolio, and will receive either a performance of a pre-existing work or a commission to write a new piece to be produced by MATA. The performers featured by MATA have included leading chamber ensembles and soloists from around the world.

To be considered, please submit the following electronically:

  1. Links to recordings of your two (2) best works
  2. Links to scores and/or descriptions to accompany the above recordings
  3. A one-page CV or resume
  4. A list of compositions (please include instrumentation & duration for all works)
  5. A completed application form
  6. Your contact information

Fee: There is no application fee

Deadline: March 31, 2020 11:59 PM (US Eastern Standard Time)

*Extended to: April 13, 2020 11:59 PM (US Eastern Standard Time)

Applications can be found here

Applicants must be in the early stages of their career or have had limited access to American concert stages.

Submissions must be entirely electronic – we do not accept hard copy submissions.

Recordings may be either audio or visual. We accept links to recordings hosted on a personal website, SoundCloud, YouTube/Vimeo, or any other streaming service. Please provide direct links to the works submitted. MIDI recordings are discouraged but will be accepted. All links must be streamable; we will not download individual files.

We accept links to PDF documents either hosted on a personal website, Google Drive, Dropbox, Issuu, or any other document-hosting platform. Please make sure that “link sharing” is turned on, and that all links remain active indefinitely. If scores are not pertinent to your work, please provide a document with a description of your submission.

IMPORTANT: Please be sure to provide permanent links that will not expire after any period of time, as the review process will take place in the spring and summer of 2020. If we cannot access your links, we cannot program your work.

Composers selected for the 2021 MATA Festival and season will be notified in the fall of 2020.
