Call for Scores MATA Festival 2020

MATA seeks submissions from composers in the early stages of their careers for our 2020 Festival of New Music in New York City and additional concerts during our 2019-2020 season.  MATA has no aesthetic bias: we welcome all types of music from fully notated to improvised, sound art, video, electronic, found instruments, toys, installations, and everything in between.  Composers are selected on the strength of their overall portfolio, and will receive either a performance of a pre-existing work or a commission to write a new piece. MATA’s performances.  Performers featured by MATA have included leading chamber ensembles and soloists from New York and the world as well as installation works and other time-based arts that defy categorization.

Please submit links to scores and recordings of your two best works, regardless of instrumentation or forces needed; a one-page resume; a list of compositions; and contact information through our website http://www.matafestival.org. We will only accept digital submissions. There is no entrance fee.  Applications must be electronically submitted by 11:59 PM, Monday February 11, 2019 in order to be considered.

Audio: we accept either links to recordings hosted on a personal website, through SoundCloud, YouTube or other streamable service. Please provide direct links to the works submitted.  MIDI recordings are discouraged but will be accepted.  Links must be streamable; we will not download individual files. YouTube and Vimeo links are acceptable if your work involves visual elements.

Scores: we accept links to PDF documents either hosted on a personal website, GoogleDocs, or other host. If you submit your files using GoogleDocs you must be certain that “link sharing” is turned on. If scores are not pertinent to your work, please provide a document explaining what we are hearing.

Composers selected for the 2020 MATA Festival and season will be notified in the autumn of 2019, if not before.  Please be sure that your links remain in operation indefinitely, as the review process will take place in the spring and summer of 2019. Do not provide links that will expire after any period of time. If we cannot access your links, we cannot program your work.

Applicants must be in the early stages of their career or have had limited access to American concert stages.
