Frequently Asked Questions: Sono/Aqua

WHAT DOES THIS EVENT ENTAIL?“Sono/Aqua” is an immersive sonic experience, that consists of an interactive sound installation, based in a pool.  At their selected time, the audience will get into the pool where they will be encouraged to swim freely, exploring the way in which their movement in the water affect the frequency and the listening experience.  Additional installaitions, derived from recording of the Hudson River, vocal works, and more, will be presented throughout the building.  Audience members will have access to the pool for timed 20 minute blocks, but are free to remain in the building/locker rooms as long as they need/want. Further information will be emailed to ticket holders the week of the event.HOW DO I PICK MY SLOT? When purchasing a ticket, you will be prompted to select one of five 20-minute time slots.  This will be your assigned pool time for the evening.  Please be on time for your slot.  We are unable to reschedule late-comers.  Please be sure to leave time before your slot to change into swimwear and shower.DO I HAVE TO GO IN THE POOL? Entering the pool is a central component of this experience, and we strongly encourage all participants who are able to do so.  However, those who are unable to enter the pool for health reasons, or who do not know how to swim, are still welcome to come enjoy the rest of the installation.I HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION- IS THIS EVENT SAFE FOR ME?This event will consist of loud underwater sonic vibrations.  Because the sound bypasses air, and passes directly through water, some participants may find the experience especially intense. For this reason, we recommend that young children and those who are pregnant, have a heart condition, or have epilepsy, do not enter the pool.WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?If you are going in the pool, please bring a bathing suit and towel.  There is a locker room on premises, where participants can change, shower and store their valuables.  MATA will provide swim caps for participants’ convenience.  If you are planning on using the lockers, we strongly encourage you to bring a combination lock.  MATA is not responsible for any lost or stolen valuables.HOW DEEP IS THE POOL? WILL THERE BE ANY LIFEGUARDS?The pool is 4 feet deep.  There will be a lifeguard from Imagine Swimming’s staff on duty.
