MATA Jr Call for Scores

MATA seeks submissions from composers who have not yet entered college. Six composers will be selected for performance and mentoring as part of MATA Jr., in collaboration with the Kaufman Music Center’s Face the Music.Please submit scores and recordings (MIDI is acceptable) of your two best works; a one paragraph biography and contact information to MATAJr2015@gmail.com by 11:59 Eastern Time on Monday, February 2, 2015. There is no entrance fee.We accept all music: sound art, video, electronic, found instruments, toys, installations, fully notated, improvised, and everything in between. A distinguished panel of MATA’s directors, composers, performers, and conductors will select up to six works for performance by Face the Music in New York City in November 2015. Composers must plan to attend the performance; MATA cannot provide for transportation costs. Works must be scored for sixteen players or less.Selected composers will be asked to write a new work, which must be completed by early summer 2015, or prepare a previously composed work for performance. Each will be paired with an established emerging composer who will act as a coach-mentor guiding them through the composition, rehearsal, and performance process.Composers who have applied previously but were not accepted are welcome to apply again. Composers whose works have ben performed previously must wait one year before applying again.Scores: All scores must be in PDF format. We cannot open Finale, Sibelius or other notation files. Please name your file with your last name and the title of the work. (Example: Mozart_EineKleineNachtmusik.pdf)Audio: mp3 format. We strongly encourage you to submit an audio realization of your work. Please name your file with your last name and the title of the work. (Example: Mozart_EineKleineNachtmusik.mp3)Biography / Contact Information (one document): In PDF format. Your biography should be no longer than one paragraph. Please include the following information: Name, Address, Date of Birth, Country of Birth, Email Address, Current School, Website (if applicable), Title, Duration and Instrumentation for each work submitted.
